The next iteration of the Peugeot 208 GTi performance hatchback series will get an all-electric variant. The car will premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2019.
The company won’t be revealing the performance, the driving range or the prices of the vehicle until much closer to the premiere.
The current main Peugeot 208 GTi series utilizes the e-CMP platform which is considered ideal for hybrid and all-electric vehicles.
Peugeot CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato said the company wanted to release an environmentally clean version of every vehicle in its product range, including the GTi performance hatchback line. According to him, Peugeot is not going to create a separate EV family like Renault does.
In addition to updating its current lineup, the company has also been designing a number of brand-new, high-performance electrified and all-electric vehicles over the past years. A sport car packing a 544-horsepower drivetrain may premiere as a design study soon.
