Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Peugeot, has made an official statement exposing the reasons behind the reduction of the company’s coupe and convertible lineup.
According to him, designing two-door vehicles requires large amounts of investment, which makes it impractical given the current industry-wide focus on electric cars, self-driving technologies, and 5G networks.
Aside from being expensive to design and produce, coupes and convertibles emerge in relatively small production quantities, resulting in minimal profits even when they sell well. He pointed out that even such industry veterans as Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen had been trimming down their two-door vehicle lineups lately.
Concluding on a cheerful, Imparato said he hoped these cars would eventually become more popular once again and the company would review its current policy in their regard.
