Peugeot has released the first bits of information concerning the upcoming new generation of its 308 model. The hatchback will upgrade to the latest EMP2 platform and rival the VW Golf R Mk8 in its top spec.
Aside from the usual gasoline and diesel engines, the hot hatch will ship in a couple of PHEV specifications. One of these will feature one electric motor and the other one two motors, just like the five-year old 308 R Hybrid Concept revealed five years ago (shown in the gallery and the video here). The dual-motor version will have AWD functionality and come rated above 300 horsepower (225+ kilowatts). The top spec will sport the PSE suffix currently used in the 508 range.
An all-electric Peugeot 308 is also in the works. The lineup will include hatchback and estate/wagon body variants, with hatchback/SUV crossover also possible but not confirmed.
The launch is scheduled for late 2021.
