Peugeot Sport has released the first images of its LMPh-class endurance racecar, along with some of the specs.
The AWD prototype comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged 2.6-liter V6 that maxes out at 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) and a motor generator that contributes another 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) to the total. The traction battery operates in 900V mode and boasts high power-to-weight ratio. A seven-speed sequential transmission sends the torque to the wheels.
Interestingly enough, the main gas engine drives exclusively the rear wheels until 120 km/h (75 mph). Once the electric motor kicks in, the V6 drops the power to 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW) for a more balanced AWD configuration. Should the battery exhaust its charge, the electric motor will turn off and the main engine will revert to max power. Drivers can even boost it briefly to 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW), but this is only available with the battery on zero charge.
