Peugeot to attempt Le-Mans and WEC with this 671-HP hybrid

The car named 9X8 pays homage to the Peugeot 905 and 908 prototypes that brought the French company Le-Mans victories in the 1990s and 2000s. The letter ‘X’ stands for ‘hybrid’, while the number ‘8’ denotes the latest model lineup.

The lack of rear wing is a deliberate design decision: the engineering team claims it has found another way to optimize the racer’s aerodynamic properties. The dashboard inside looks much like the i-Cockpit of the road-legal Peugeot cars.

Power is provided by a 2.6-liter V6 and a motor-generator. A seven-speed sequential transmission delivers up to 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) to the wheels. The battery has been do-developed with Saft and is rated at 900 volts, although its power storage capacity remains undisclosed.

The vehicle you see here is not finalized yet, and it has yet to hit the test track. Even so, the developer team claims the final version will not be much different.
