Peugeot coupe-SUV hits the test track wearing production metal

Peugeot continues polishing its very first coupe-like crossover SUV: the latest batch of spy photos shows the car running on rather bizarre-looking wheels with measuring equipment attached.

Other than that, though, the unnamed vehicle appears ready to debut and go into production. The plan the automaker revealed early this year involved releasing a ‘C Crossover’ model with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Everything points to this car being it.

Rumor has it that the car will be derived from the Peugeot 308 platform. It could be named ‘408 Cross’ or ‘4008 Cross’, according to unconfirmed sources. From the stylistic point of view, the off-roader will likely stay close to its donor while making use of range-topping plug-in hybrid tech. The 308 model maxes out at 180-225 PS (178-222 hp; 132-165 kW) in its top specs, with the electric motor locked to a static 110 PS (108 hp / 81 kW).

Launch timeframes remain to be announced, but we expect the part-electric coupe-SUV to debut at the Paris International Auto Show this fall.
