Peugeot schedules AWD hybrid sports car for October 2020 launch

The 508 Sport Engineered series will be available in estate/wagon and liftback variants in showrooms starting from October next year, Peugeot CEO claims.

Pre-ordering will open in March 2020. The company says it will provide all the necessary details about the car prior to that; right now, all we know is that it will feature a hybrid powertrain with 360 hp (268 kW) distributed among all four wheels.

When Peugeot introduced its 508 Sport Engineered Concept, the car packed three engines: two electric ones, rated at 111 hp (83 kW) and 204 hp (152 kW), and a 1.6 PureTech gasoline unit churning out another 200 hp (150 kW). As you may see, the final production car sports much humbler specs than its prototype did.

This will likely translate to slower launch times (compared against the 4.3 seconds 0-100 km/h or 0-62 mph in the concept version). The company also promises to ensure the model gets at least 50 kilometers (31 miles) of WLTP-rated all-electric driving range.

If all goes according to plans, the Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered will hit the showrooms in October next year.
