Peugeot has disclosed the prices of its 508 Sport Engineered (PSE) liftback and wagon models, and those who expected the duo to come cheaper than the Audi S4 TDI or even BMW M340i xDrive are in for a nasty surprise.
Customers in Germany can obtain their 508 PSE liftback for €66,600 before all options, while the estate-shaped SW will set them back no less than €67,900.
For this price, the newest Peugeot hybrid comes with a plug-in system that includes a 1.6-liter gasoline turbo-four and dual electric engines (one on the rear axle, the other one built into the eight-speed A/T). The output maxes out at 360 PS (355 hp / 265 kW) and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque, enabling a sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds.
An 11.5-kilowatt-hour battery grants up to 42 kilometers of all-electric range, and can be otherwise used to drop gas consumption to just 2 liters per 100 km (117 MPG in the United States).
To put things in perspective, opting for a marginally cheaper BMW M340i xDrive sedan nets you a 3.0-liter gasoline inline-six engine turbocharged to 374 PS (371 hp / 277 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). The sprint time drops to just 4.4 seconds, and you pay only €64,300.
The Audi S4 is another alternative. Its 3.0-liter diesel V6 pumps out 347 PS (342 hp / 255 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, getting it up to speed in 4.8 seconds. Prices begin from €63,000 in Germany for the sedan and €64,750 for the Avant wagon.
