Peugeot 508 gets a refresh

Peugeot has unveiled a facelift version of its second-generation 508 model. Both the liftback and the estate were refreshed along with Peugeot Sport Engineered performance editions that debuted in 2020.

Changes on the outside are pretty extensive and include slim Matrix LED headlights, claw-mark DRLs, a different radiator grille with a shield badge instead of the old lion logo, and a new front bumper. The taillights retain their original shapes, but now have three light stripes inside and with the name ‘Peugeot’ spelled out in between. Buyers can now choose from three new exterior finishes named Okenite White, Eclipse Blue and Titanium Grey, as well as opt for 18-inch wheels.

The interior layout stays largely unchanged: there is a digital dash screen, a modest-sized display (although the logo is large), and a touchscreen with seven physical buttons underneath. Even the air intakes look the same as before. The only notable difference is the gear selector for the eight-speed auto transmission, which has become smaller.

In Europe, you can choose from two engines rated at 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW). One is a 1.2-liter petrol three-cylinder and the other one is a 1.5-liter four-pot diesel. The standard 1.6-liter petrol mill with 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) will only be available in export markets including Africa, Asia and Middle East.

There are new hybrids as well, with a new 180-PS (177-hp / 132-kW) option joining the old 225-PS (222-hp / 165 kW) spec. The electric motor is the same for both, but the new affordable spec replaces the old 180-PS petrol engine with a new one rated at 150 PS.

For the all-wheel-drive 508 PSE, the output now amounts to 360 PS (355 hp / 265 kW) and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque. All hybrids get their battery size increased from 11.8 to 12.4 kilowatt-hours and their optional Level 2 charger power from 6.6 to 7.4 kW.

The production takes place in Mulhouse, France. The sales are set to begin in the summer.
