Peugeot turns an old sedan into a new estate car

The French car manufacturer Peugeot has unveiled a new estate based on the old 508 sedan model. The public debut of the vehicle will take place at the upcoming Paris International Motor Show.

The first series of Peugeot 508 SW vehicles will reach dealers in Europe early next year, with prices becoming available closer to that date. Once it hits the showrooms, the car will have to compete against the Opel Insignia and the Volkswagen Passat in their market segment.

The estate is based on the trademark Peugeot i-Cockpit II interior design concept, the likes of which you may find in the Peugeot 3008 and 5008. Available equipment includes a digital dashboard, an advanced infotainment system with smartphone control support, a 10-inch touchscreen display, and a climate control unit.

The list of electronic assistants is also fairly large, encompassing an emergency brake system, traffic sign recognition, a blind spot monitor, lane control, parking assist, night vision, and adaptive cruise control.

At 530 liters (18.7 cu. ft.), the trunk compartment of the new Peugeot 508 SW isn’t very large, but expands to 1,780 liters (66 cu. ft.) once you fold the rear seats.

The model will be available will 1.6-liter gasoline engines rated between 180 and 225 hp (134 – 168 kW), a 1.5L diesel unit with 130 hp (97 kW) and a 2.0L diesel engine with 180 hp (134 kW).
