Radi – wait for it! – cal: Peugeot to surprise 2018 Paris show audience

Peugeot will be bringing an “outstanding and radical” concept vehicle to the 2018 Paris International Motor Show starting in October. CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato was the one who issued the bold statement, probably referring to a prototype equipped with a hi-end electric engine.

Rumor has it that the show car might eventually make it into production as the new flagship. If this is to happen, then it is going to be either all-electric or at least electrified. The manufacturer plans to switch to an environment-friendly model range starting in 2019 and to issue an electrified version for every gasoline and diesel-powered model still on the market.

The first cars to make the switch will be the Peugeot 508 sedan and the 3008 crossover SUV. Both will be re-released as plug-in hybrids. In contrast, the next Peugeot 208 will get an all-electric drivetrain. According to Imparato, engine availability will primarily depend on the size of the car.

Peugeot did a pretty decent job surprising the audience of the Geneva International Car Show last year. The company demonstrated a shooting brake prototype called Instinct, with an infotainment system so smart it could guess what people wanted it to do.
