Little is spoken about the golden age of the station wagon these days. With SUVs, crossovers and pickups dominating the roads today, it can be hard to remember the time when every second family in the USA had an estate car parked in their garage. YouTube channel Hand Built Cars provides a great retrospective on that era with this 1972 Plymouth Fury 400.
The owner of the car, Mark, lives in France but is a big fan of North American automotive classics. The Plymouth was his latest acquisition: be bought it after selling a restored 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, looking for a daily driver that you could freely use without fear of scratching the paint slightly. According to him, the Plymouth was an ideal find.
The whole car is covered in patina, a natural consequence of metal exposure to sun, moisture and oxygen. Mark says he is happy he doesn’t have to be alert and nervous at all times driving it and then polishing every scratch. Rather than doing that, he simply rubs the car with oil from time to time.
