A 22-year old Plymouth Prowler – a rather unconventional-looking vehicle with exposed front wheels – fetched only $40,250 at a recent auction despite some costly restoration efforts.
Among other things, its owner outfitted it with a powerful Hemi V8, essentially eliminating the main weak point these cars had been criticized for. In its stock state (see video), the Prowler made do with a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 257 PS (253 hp / 189 kW), which a four-speed automatic transmission carried to the wheels. Many buyers believed a vehicle as exquisite-looking as this one deserved more engine thrust.
This restomod takes advantage of a much better 6.1-liter V8 crate engine and some further aftermarket mods, such as a custom exhaust system, an aluminum radiator, and new cranks. The resulting power output is not stated, but it should be above the already impressive OEM value of 425 PS (419 hp / 313 kW). The gearbox sports revised gear ratios, and the suspension benefits from quite a few upgrades as well. An air intake on the hood is new, and so is the body-matching interior trim in yellow.
The Prowler had around 40,200 km (25,000 miles) on the odometer when it changed hands.
