The year 2021 is gone, and so is the Polestar 1. The coupe-shaped hybrid left production after only 1,500 units made. AutoTopNL had an opportunity to test one on a no-limits highway in Europe, and here are the results.
Overall, the test crew praised the acceleration chops of the car that weighs 2,350 kilos (5,180 lbs) and only has four cylinders to haul itself around. Granted, dual electric motors mounted on the rear axle liven up things somewhat, adding up to a beefy total of 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque.
The electrified sports car hit a slightly damp autobahn in Germany and managed to hit the 250 km/h (155 miles per hour) stated as the top speed in its manual. Had the driver opted for an all-electric run, the odometer would have maxed out at 160 km/h (99 mph).
The 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time fell rather short of being impressive in any sense, despite the enormous instant torque coming from two electric mills. The claimed OEM launch time of 4.2 seconds was not attained, be it due to a wet road or other reasons.
