Polestar says it wants no part in EV price wars

Polestar CEO said in an interview to Reuters that the goals of the Swedish-Chinese car brand were “completely different” from those of Tesla Inc. and that it had a reputation to maintain as a premium sports car manufacturer.

While Tesla hopes to produce a total of 1.8 million EVs this year, Polestar sticks to its former production goal of just 80,000 units. Since the brand has premium positioning and is not targeting the mass market, it will be better off not waging any discount wars with Tesla or other manufacturers, losing profits for little in return.

As of right now, the only Polestar EV on sale is the Polestar 2 pictured below. The model received a brush-up heading into 2023 and currently starts from U.S. $48,400. The EPA-rated driving range amounts to 435 km (270 miles).
