Polestar once again says cheap EVs aren’t its thing

Polestar will not be competing with Tesla anytime soon, because the brand wants to develop its business in a different market niche, Automotive News reports quoting Thomas Ingenlath. In his latest media interview, Polestar boss stressed that the Swedish company’s path lies through a different land – one of premium EVs.

This means that, unlike Tesla, the marque will not try to ramp up production volumes or switch to making more affordable EVs. Instead, the company will bet on high quality of its cars and try to keep them packed with the latest tech features.

Ingenlath pointed towards the Polestar 2 (in the gallery below) as a prime example of this strategy. The company had considered replacing its battery with a smaller, cheaper one or dialing down the motor specifications. However, in the end it decided to improve the specifications instead and raise the price – a call that proved right in its market segment.
