Volvo’s electric sub-brand, Polestar, has shared the first official pic of its upcoming crossover SUV named simply the 3. The off-roader will debut along with the next-gen Volvo XC90 in 2022.
There is a wrap concealing smaller details, but the overall design can be clearly seen all the same. The characteristic T-shaped ‘Thor’s hammer’ headlights look slimmer than before, while the unusually tall shoulder line evokes associations with the Genesis GV80 or Nissan Murano, rather than anything Polestar.
Market observers expect the 3 to be technically related to the Volvo XC90, but while the latter will be available with an internal combustion engine as well, the 3 will be a pure BEV.
The production will take place at the Volvo factory in North Carolina, USA, on the marque’s most lucrative market. The company expects to multiply sales by a factor of 10 in the next five years, from around 29,000 Polestar cars sold this year to around 290,000 in 2025.
