Polestar, which currently belongs to Geely Auto Group along with Volvo, has revealed its strategy for the next three years. According to it, the company will be developing its own proprietary car platforms, Level 3 self-driving technology, and more.
In addition to the above, the automotive brand intends to become profitable in four years and grow up to become a full-fledged rival of Porsche.
Polestar’s history should help it rival the German sports car maker: the company did evolve from a tuning shop and a racing team that promoted Volvo in touring car championships. The first step will be made when Polestar 5 liftback – the Taycan EV nemesis – debuts in the coming months.
John Canton, PR boss of Polestar North America, said the company was developing a special new architecture to base its cars upon, which had nothing to do with existing Volvo platforms. It was also designing its own electric motor that would combine compact dimensions (36x50x64 cm) with high power output (612 PS / 600 hp / 447 kW). Like the system found in the Porsche Taycan, the new engine will utilize a two-step reduction gear to convey the momentum to the wheels.
