Elderly Pontiac springs to second life on Chevy S-10 chassis, V8 heart

Sean, a simple guy from the United States, has a weakness towards automotive classics. He once paid $500 for a 1955 Pontiac and turned it into a modern and capable off-roader.

A new chassis borrowed from a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup grants the Pontiac plenty of ground clearance. The donor vehicle was in horrible condition – lots of rust everywhere, a dead engine and clinched brakes – but after more than a year of hard work, Sean managed to resuscitate it and make drivable.

The old mill made room for a 5.3-liter V8 also taken from the Chevrolet truck mentioned above, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The original steering wheel and dashboard were allowed to stay, but the tuner added cup holders and a fire extinguisher.

At the front end, the car sporta anti-fog lamps that Sean’s father bought all the way back in 1975 when he worked at Kmart. There are some additional lights on the roof as well, along with a robust-looking rack. All-terrain tires round off the rugged aesthetic rather impressively.

And the best part? Sean claims he invested as little as $5,000 into the whole build.
