44-year-old Pontiac Firebird Trans Am gets born anew thanks to tuners

Retro Designs, a car restorer based in the United States, has produced yet another flawless-looking restomod based on an American classic, this time around a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The sports car ended up with new engine, suspension and interior.

Looking at the body, you would be hard pressed to believe it is not a factory-new car. The large wheels with their intricate spoke patterns are perhaps the only thing not looking period-correct in the entire project. The rest – the body kit, the assorted trim bits and the New Zealand Green paintjob – look like they teleported to us straight from the late 1970s.

The interior is dominated by gorgeous new leather trim and offers some modern creature comforts to the driver, most notably a Vintage Air climate control system and a modern audio system.

For the engine, the restorer decided to stick with the old-and-proven General Motors LS3 V8 tuned to output its standard 436 PS (430 hp / 316 kW). A six-speed automatic transmission drives the rear wheels, while a Magnaflow exhaust system ensures a juicy soundtrack at all RPMs.

Retro Designs never mentioned the pricing, but its projects start at a bare minimum of U.S. $250,000.
