The insane Pontiac GTO that cost $1.2M to build heads to auction

A highly unconventional restomod known as the Twisted 67 GTO will be offered for auction at the Monterey Car Week in mid-August. The idea was to build the ultimate GTO sparing no expense whatsoever. As a result, the owner had invested more than $1,200,000 into the car over just two years. It sure looks awesome, but will it recoup the losses? Forgive us for being skeptical.

The original car – a 1967 Pontiac GTO – was transferred to a Chevy C6 Corvette chassis further modified by Roadster Shop. It also landed with a 7.0-liter LS7 V8 driven by a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger. We don’t know how much exactly the mill pushes out, but LS7 swaps with more than 1,000 horsepower (750 kilowatts) are not unheard of.

Interestingly enough, the car still wears its original bodywork resprayed in an aquatic shade of blue. The interior is all-new with red leather on the dash, the console and the seats. Finely polished aluminum adds to the sense of retro luxury, and it helps that there isn’t a bit of newfangled carbon fiber in sight. For all its vintage charms, the car keeps up with the modern music trends packing a 12-speaker system alongside a 12-inch (307mm) subwoofer.

It also rides on staggered wheels installed in 19” front and 20” rear, makes use of a modern four-speed AT, has Baer brakes for efficient deceleration and sounds like a riot thanks to a performance exhaust system.
