Three award-winning Porsche racecars go on sale

Gooding & Company will hold an auction next month dedicated to three particularly successful Porsche racecars, one of which – the last Porsche 935 to roll off the assembly line – is estimated at U.S. $3,000,000.

The company only ever produced seven 935s back in 1979. The one currently on sale with Gooding & Company originally belonged to Otis Chandler, publisher of The Los Angeles Times. A major collector of German cars currently owns it.

The second entry is a Porsche 962C that participated in the 24 Hours of Le-Mans. The conceptual racecar was modded by Kremer Racing. The team retrofitted it to use lightweight carbon chassis instead of the original aluminum space-frame, and painted the body to resemble the famous Leyton House ride. Estimations put this one in the general vicinity of U.S. $1,250,000.

The third and last car is a 45-year-old Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS Lightweight, which belongs to a series of just 200 vehicles. This particular copy has been restored to peak condition and should fetch around U.S. $1,200,000.
