Porsche Taycan EV might get a touchpad for gear selection

The new Porsche Taycan EV, an all-electric production sports car based on the Mission E Concept, should celebrate its international premiere in September 2019. In the meantime, we have already learned what the car would look like from the outside thanks to spy photos. Today, someone posted a video showing what could end up being the cabin of the new Taycan.

The video focuses on a digital center console with satellite navigation and self-driving functions and lingers on an unusual gear selector design – a touch-sensitive panel, to be precise. While this may very well be a designer’s fantasy, the selector pad still looks like a feature that might make it into production.

Back to official data, though. Porsche says the battery sports car will ship with a 600-hp (447-kW) powertrain that would enable it to sprint from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds. Once fully charged, it will offer around 400 kilometers (250 miles) of range.

While the exact launch date hasn’t been set yet, the company claims the production will begin soon after the September premiere, so we can safely expect the new Taycan to arrive before the end of the year.

Prices begin at €100,000 for the entry-level model with a smaller battery. Despite the cost, Porsche says it has already received over 20,000 pre-orders.
