Porsche has brought a pre-production copy of its first-ever BEV to the Porsche Experience Center testing course in Shanghai, where the lightly-cladded vehicle has made a few loops. It then moved on to participate in a series of special events in Great Britain and the United States.
Chinese racing driver Li Chao piloted the car for the duration of the test. He ventured an opinion that the Taycan undercarriage combined sports car levels of maneuverability and steering ease with sedan/saloon-levels of comfort.
Customers will be treated to a car equipped with two electric motors jointly rated at 600 hp (447 kW). These will connect to an 800-volt electrical system and a traction battery rated for 400 kilometers (250 miles) of range. Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) will be a matter of 3.5 seconds.
Manned by the famous racing driver Mark Webber, the Porsche Taycan prototype will participate in the hill climb race event at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will then sail overseas to take part in a Formula E lap in the NYC, USA.
The official reveal event is scheduled for the coming fall.
