The Motorsport subdivision of Porsche has greenlit the development of a new LMDh-based prototype racecar to compete in the LMP2 (hybrid) category. The German marque will begin its comeback to endurance racing in January 2023.
Despite the official teaser pic that accompanied the announcement, Pascal Zurlinden, Head of Porsche Factory Motorsport, emphasized that the main technological decisions had not been made yet regarding the car. He pointed out that the company was still considering Oreca, Ligier, Dallara and Multimatic as potential suppliers of the chassis, and did not have a single powertrain in mind, either.
“With regards to the powertrain, we haven’t reached a final decision yet, but looking at all the sports cars Porsche has, you realize there are actually plenty of fitting engines out there,” he said. He also hinted that the company might decide to put up the original LMDh Concept for sale later.
