Tuner restores 1959 Porsche 356 coupe sans roof

Rod Emory founded Emory Motorsports specifically to restore and modernize vintage Porsche cars, especially those from the 356 series. A couple days ago, another example rolled out of the tuner’s garage.

The base vehicle here is a rare 1959 Porsche 356 Coupe, although you might have mistaken it for a roadster. The matter is, this car lost its top in a severe road accident, and when Rod took it in for restoration, he chose not to bother with the roof.

He began by cleaning and polishing the body and painting it an exclusive smoky-blue tint. He also got rid of most chrome elements, leaving only the grille, the headlight frames and the air intake inlets.

The two-door vehicle had its entire suspension overhauled and upgraded with Koni adjustable shocks. The stock 15-inch stainless-steel wheels remained in place, though – perhaps to better honor the age of the coupe.

The restomod weighs in at 839 kg (1,850 lbs) and comes powered by a new 2.4-liter turbo-four engine delivering up to 205 (153 kW) to the wheels by means of a four-speed manual transmission. A large air scoop situated behind the driver’s seat provides adequate cooling.
