One-off Porsche 356 Abarth headed for auction

The next Car&Classic sale will be dedicated, among other things, to this unique Porsche 356 Borghi Abarth rebuilt in Argentina based on an all-custom body after the original car went down in flames in the ‘60s.

The original Porsche 356 had no body panels remaining intact after the fire, but it managed to avoid the scrap press. An Italian man named Aldo Borghi resolved to save it and ended up turning it into a veritable museum piece. He fabricated the entire body anew from aluminum parts and restored the interior from scratch, trimming it with tartan fabric and installing a wooden steering wheel. He put a tachometer in the middle of the panel to round off the project.

Things were allowed to stay largely untouched under the hood, but the engine received a minor performance bump to 110 PS (108 hp / 81 kW). The transmission is four-speed manual.
