Check out a Porsche 356 that spend four decades abandoned in a barn

The YouTube channel fittingly named Carchaeology has filmed an episode dedicated to a 1959 Porsche 356 that had spent 39 years sitting in a barn. The dry, warm climate of California allowed it to survive in a rather decent shape, despite a complete lack of maintenance.

The example found is an A-series 356 model likely equipped with a 90-PS (89-hp / 66-kW) engine. The only alternative was a smaller 1.6-liter block rated at a low 60 PS (59 hp / 44 kW). The owner said he bought it used in 1975 and drove it from time to time until 1984. Since then, it has stood neglected, gathering dust.

The bodywork reveals only minor rust specs visible below all the dust and grime. In contrast, the brown leather cabin looks pristine and doesn’t even warrant a major restoration, according to Carchaeology.

On the whole, the defects are surprisingly minor for a vehicle neglected for a quarter of a century. Even before it is restored, this 356 could cost around $100,000 in modern USD.
