The Mission R is a battery-powered, 718 Cayman-sized track weapon that previews the design of the marque’s future racecars destined for single-make tournaments where ICE cars are prohibited.
Power comes from a pair of electric motors mounted one per axle. The standard output amounts to 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW), while the peak output can hit 1,088 PS (1,073 hp / 800 kW) when most needed.
Getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 2.5 seconds, and the top speed lies above 300 km/h (186 mph). Porsche claims that it has implemented an innovative cooling system to ensure that no power is lost due to overheating even on the most challenging tracks.
An 80-kWh traction battery supplies the power and goes from 5 to 80 percent full within 15 minutes of charging from a 900V outlet using a 340-kW Porsche Turbo Charging adapter. Once full, the battery gives enough juice for around 30 minutes of intense track driving.
The engineering team points out that many Porsche prototypes find their way to the market sooner or later. As such, even though the Mission R is a concept, it will most likely become a production model and even put a start to a single-make cup of its own. Having said that, these plans will have to wait until at least 2023.
