Porsche teases its upcoming Le Mans hypercar

For the most part of the 21st century, Porsche had been easily taking the Le Mans pedestal – watch the embedded video for a look back at its victories. Dieselgate put the automaker out of action for a while, but it is now back to the track with a badass-looking new hypercar.

There are two Le Mans competition categories that hypercars take part in, LMH and LMDh. The German company will be entering the latter. According to the regulations, teams must buy ICE engines and hybrid powertrain components from an accredited supplier. The list currently includes Oreca, Ligier, Dallara and Multimatic. The latter is a partner of Porsche, but the company still designs its own transmission and aerodynamic kit.

The prototype hypercar will enter its testing phase in January, but its racing career won't begin until 2023.
