Porsche LMDh prototype hits the racetrack for the first time

We have been monitoring the development progress of the Porsche LMDh for a while now, and naturally could not afford missing its first test drive. Here is a short video that shows the hybrid beast flexing its muscle at the Weissach test track.

The part-electric racing supercar still has no final name, but it will enter the FIA WEC racing series later this year driven by Penske Racing Team. It rides on a custom chassis named LMP2, which was designed by Multimatic, and uses an IC engine along with an electric motor to drive the wheels with 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) total.

Porsche test driver Frédéric Makowiecki was piloting the prototype during the initial test the other day. He posted a very satisfied tweet after the run, saying, “It was a very positive start, we were able to make several laps and discovered that the car performed just as expected.”
