The German manufacturer will be competing in the LMDh category with a hybrid vehicle based on a V8 twin-turbo.
The engine works in tandem with a single electric motor. The resulting output is not stated, but regulations limit it to 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW). The displacement is also not mentioned, but the company says it is ‘large’. Porsche Motorsport believes the V8 offers an optimum combination of power, weight and cost.
The drivetrain and the chassis have already passed their tests in Weissach. The company will spend another year perfecting the details before putting the car on the track in January 2023. The prototype will participate in the IMSA race in Daytona, USA, as well as some other main stages of the world championship including Sebring and Le Mans.
Aside from Porsche, the list of LMDh participants includes BMW. Ferrari and Peugeot will also join in on the Le Mans, but they will compete in the LMH group.
