A 59-year-old Gillig Model 590H bus converted into a luxury car carrier just found a new owner, who paid $340,000 USD for it despite aftermarket modifications. Carscoops reports it could belong to the U.S. Secret Service and tasked with carrying the presidential limo.
The seller, who resides in California, bought the vehicle six years ago in faulty condition and decided to turn it into a mobile garage for his Porsche instead of restoring it to OEM state. This is how it ended up with the company logo and name written on one side in large letters.
Further modifications included replacing the wheels and installing Porsche 356 lights. The interior combines OEM and modern details, offering two seats with tall backs, a steering wheel with a Porsche badge, and LED lighting all around. Dark walnut wood lines the floor.
A peek inside the engine bay reveals that the thirsty stock 9.7-liter engine rated at 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) retired, and a new 7.0-liter, two-stroke, hybrid-charged engine with 285 PS (281 hp / 210 kW) and 1,085 Nm (800 lb-ft) of torque took its place. The seller says the replacement engine was also offered as an option for this bus model in the past.
