Porsche has confirmed the acquisition of Greyp, an electric bike manufacturing company founded by Mate Rimac – the same person who established Rimac Automobili. According to Electrek, the purchase means that Porsche is being serious about taking up a sizeable share of the electric bicycle market.
Porsche already had a stock in Greyp, but it has now bought it out completely. Last year, the German carmaker also acquired Fazua, a manufacturer of electric bike transmissions. It also founded a subsidiary called eBike Performance.
The company now plans to unite these three businesses under the single banner of Porsche eBike Performance. There is still no detailed plan available for us to read, but we expect Porsche to be very prolific with its new business direction. After all, the company has amassed great experience in e-bike design, development and manufacturing.
Porsche-badged, battery-powered bicycles have been around for a few years already – you can find examples in the gallery and the video below. Many have carbon fiber in their structure.
