A highly unusual prize for all motorsport enthusiasts is being auctioned off in the United States with a few days remaining and the bidding already at $87,000. It may look like a crude Porsche 917 LM racer replica at a glance, but popping the lid reveals the Le Mans racetrack reproduced in detail and ready to host RC car championships.
The replica is not entirely faithful to the original, but it still shows a remarkable attention to detail and appears well-proportioned. At a push of a button, the bodywork of the car swings open to reveal a part of the Le Mans track complete with the pit lane, the stands, the banners and other trademark features. Trees and spectators lining the curbs help liven things up somewhat.
There are only two lanes, but players can choose from nineteen 1:32 iconic racecar models that anyone who remembers the 1970s-era Le Mans races will surely recognize.
A Detroit company named Slot Mods produced the one-off gaming rig around a decade ago.
