Rare Porsche sells for $2.5M

A 1967 Porsche 910 has found a new owner who paid $2.5 million for it. The company only made 27 (another source says 29) such sports car chasses for various motorsport events, but this particular example had nothing to do with the Porsche racing team.

The model 910 spent around a year participating in races and brought Porsche four first places at the Nürburgring endurance race of 1967. This particular car was mostly used as a tech test platform, though. It never raced until 1971, when the company felt it was done with it and sold it into private hands. Over the following years, new owners equipped it with all kinds of engines – the chassis design allowed for it. The listing said the current engine was a two-liter flat-six mill the likes of which Porsche also installed in these cars.

Whoever bought the 910 got another engine in a crate – a 2.2-liter flat eight-cylinder. The seller said it had been installed from 1985 until 1991 or so. Dubbed Type 771, this engine was also a standard option for the Porsche 910, but this block was stroked out from 2.0 to 2.2 liters of displacement.
