A motorboat known as Kineo 27 is looking for a buyer willing to part with $495,000 in the USA. Only a few units like it were produced by Porsche Design in the late 1980s, complete with a Porsche engine under the hood.
The original project was started by two yacht makers from Florida. Porsche Design joined the team to come up with a characteristic ‘seamless’ exterior and car-inspired cabin trim. The boat was originally envisioned with dual V8 engines on board taken from the 928 S4 series. Modifications were made to these engines to ensure that they operate well on water and deliver a combined 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 746 kW) thanks to forced induction.
The yacht makers had planned on selling such boats en masse through Porsche dealerships around the United States. However, the final price turned out too much for the economic reality of the time. The company had even produced several budget-minded motorboats with just one Porsche 928 engine on board instead of two, but doing so did not save the project. According to various sources, between 3 and 10 such single-motor boats were made. The one on sale right now is one of them.
The seller claims that the boat had never been floated since production and is in ‘like-new’ condition. In theory, it should be able to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) or so on water.
