Porsche has commissioned its first branded charging station to enable owners of its EVs and hybrid cars to refill their batteries with utmost comfort. Called the Porsche Charging Lounge, it is only a pilot project in Germany at the moment, but the automaker says more stations will appear along the main European routes soon, especially in Austria and Switzerland.
To access the Porsche Charging Lounge, which operates 24/7, you need to have a Porsche ID linked to the car you wish to charge. The station offers six fast 300kW charging terminals and four slow 22kW ones. Starting next year, the company plans to boost the power of its DC terminals to standard 400 kilowatts.
The Lounge building itself has glass walls and a pleasant microclimate produced by a continually running heat pump. The inner space resembles a living room and offers snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, Wi-Fi access and digital content, as well as a WC. Last but not least, there is a ‘smart mirror’ that you can approach to flex your body and do some exercise as you are waiting for your EV to top up its battery.
Solar panels mounted on a quasi-floating roof source some of the power used by the Lounge. When no one is inside, the interior lighting becomes dimmer to save power.
