Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo outraces a Formula One vehicle

To a perfectionist car maker like Porsche, world records are there to challenge and beat them. And it’s not like this approach doesn’t pay off, either. Meet a highly special Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, a prototype vehicle that has managed to finish the entire 7,004-meter long Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, France, in 1:41.770 – full 0.783 s better than the result of Lewis Hamilton at the last year’s Formula One in Belgium.

The marvelous Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo is normally driven by a hybrid engine which comprises a two-liter turbocharged V4 engine with 500 hp (373 kW) and an electric motor contributing another 400 hp (298 kW). The record-setting vehicle has been boosted to 720 hp (537 kW) and 440 hp (328 kW), accordingly.

In addition to the abovementioned performance improvement, Porsche engineers have reworked the body of the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, reducing its weight to 849 kilograms (~1,872 lbs.). They have also installed new brakes and fine-tuned the steering column.

During the record-breaking race, the vehicle was piloted by Swiss professional racing driver Neel Jani.
