2020 Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder, Cayman GT4 update brings a new engine

German luxury automobile manufacturer Porsche has unveiled the 2020 facelift version of its 718 Boxster Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4. Let us see what’s new and exciting.

Outside, not much goes on at all. The GT4 now takes advantage of a fixed rear wing and an active diffuser, which the company claims should improve its downforce by up to 50% without affecting the aerodynamic drag. In turn, the Spyder gets a wavy rear cover, an active diffuser and a retractable rear spoiler that automatically extends whenever the car hits 120 km/h (75 mph).

Top models in the 718 range now ship with a new 4.0-liter V6 engine rated at 420 hp (313 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb×ft) of torque. The engine supports variable injection and high-pressure, multi-stage piezo injection – reportedly, this is the first time the latter has been successfully implemented in a high-revving internal combustion engine. A six-speed manual transmission sends the power to the wheels, accelerating both models 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.4 seconds. The Spyder tops out at 301 km/h (187 mph), while the GT4 can climb all the way up to 304 km/h (189 mph).

Interior highlights include a new steering wheel, a gear shifter with shortened travel, and bucket seats wrapped in Alcantara. You may browse among various interior trim schemes involving genuine leather and matte aluminum inserts.

Both 2020 facelift models come equipped with Porsche’s trademark active suspension, a 30mm (1.2”) reduction in ride height, and improved rear differential, brakes, and torque control.
