Sotheby’s is getting ready for an auction dedicated to an anniversary of the Porsche brand. In an attempt to garner some media attention, the auction house has revealed that an extremely rare Porsche 356 A 1600 S Speedster vehicle issued as far back as 1956 will go under the hammer as well.
According to Sotheby’s official representative, the car is pretty much in mint condition. With a total of only 48,000 kilometers (30,000 miles) on its odometer and over 60 years since the release, it hasn’t deteriorated in any significant respect. Its former owner has built a dedicated garage for this car alone and made sure to take it out for maintenance every year. He even paid attention to the interior parts made from rubber, always keeping them oiled with linseed oil.
The its Super trim level, the Porsche 356 A 1600 S Speedster came equipped with a rather humble 1.6-liter engine only good for 75 hp / 56 kW. The vehicle was only obtainable with the White Glacier lacquering.
The offer includes original manufacturer’s spare parts, a user manual, an original set of side window curtains, and an authenticity certificate.
The winning bidder may well end up paying over U.S. $500,000 for the vehicle.
