Porsche said long ago that it was planning to launch mass production of its first-ever fully electric vehicle. Today we may finally learn some details about the new car, whose name is reportedly “Taycan”.
The brand-new Porsche Taycan will be assembled in Stuttgart starting in 2019. It will enter the market with a choice among three engines rated at 402, 536 and 670 horsepower (that’s 300, 400 and 500 kW) and a two-range transmission with a diff lock.
The top-spec version is going to be able to accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in less than three seconds and reach the manufacturer-set speed limit at 250 km/h (155 mph). It is also going to be able to ride at least 500 kilometers before depleting its batteries, and a quick charge is only going to take 20 minutes.
Preliminary estimates place the price range of the new Porsche Taycan above U.S. $80,000.
The original Porsche Mission Е Concept debuted at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in Germany three years ago. Unlike that vehicle, the production car won’t be getting rear suicide doors, but it will get a small second trunk compartment hidden under the hood.
