With 10 percent of the stock purchased, Porsche has become a co-owner of Rimac, a Croatian all-electric hypercar manufacturer. The German company now plans to enlist the help of the new business partner in the development of environmentally safe vehicles.
With the Concept One debuting at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in 2011, Rimac is a relatively young vehicle manufacturer. Nonetheless, the visitors to the show were startled by the sheer power of the prototype vehicle. The car entered the market in a tiny series of just 88 copies, powered by a 1,088-hp (811-kW) engine and available at €1,000,000.
The second hypercar, named Rimac C_Two, saw the daylight this spring. With a total of 1,914 hp (1,427 kW) at its disposal and a humongous 120 kWh battery, it has managed to outshine even its already impressive predecessor. Apart from the monstrous performance, it came with an active aerodynamic kit and a virtual driving assistant. Every Rimac C_Two can accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in trifling 1.84 seconds and travel at least 650 kilometers (400 miles) prior to exhausting its charge.
The Croatian company is also engaged in the development of engines, batteries and chargers for other automotive concepts. Its experience is going to be especially valuable to Porsche, since the company is currently working on its first, but by far not the last, Taycan EV.
