Porsche works on a new convertible supercar

Porsche is getting ready to launch the production of 2,000 convertible supercars based on the prototype it revealed at the recently concluded Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The vehicle has been previously spotted by car photographers running various tests at the Nürburgring Circuit in Germany. Rumors persist that it might ship with the same drivetrain as the latest-generation 911 GT3 coupe. If true, it will be getting a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated V6 engine good for 500 hp (373 kW). There will also be two available transmissions, manual and 7-speed semi-automatic.

The dynamic performance of Porsche’s new convertible isn’t being disclosed, either, but the abovementioned engine usually accomplishes the acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 to 4.0 seconds. Its top going speed is likely to be manufacturer-capped at 320 km/h (200 mph).

Reportedly, the engineer team who worked on the car went for minimum possible weight. This meant they had to ditch the multimedia system, the GPS unit, the air conditioner and the regular seats, swapping the latter for the ones made of carbon.

The new Porsche convertible will be priced above U.S. $200,000.
