New Porsche 911 goes roofless

Porsche has unveiled the next generation of its 911 Convertible line. Buyers will be able to choose between the regular Carrera S and the all-wheel-driven Carrera 4S.

Unlike the main 911 series, the convertible sports a soft roof that can automatically fold and unfold within 12 seconds (as long as you go slower than 50 km/h or 31 mph, that is).

The hood cover opens to reveal a 2.0L gasoline engine good for 450 hp (336 kW) and 530 Nm (391 lbft) of torque. It is partnered with an eight-speed DSG box.

The rear-drive Carrera S sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.9 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive 4S manages to accomplish the same in 3.8s. Both can be upgraded with the Sport Chrono package for an extra 0.2s boost.

The 8th generation of the Porsche 911 family debuted at the Los-Angeles Auto Show in the fall of 2018. It featured a larger hood cover, new headlights with matrix LED tech inside, and a number of advanced safety systems.
