Last Porsche 911.991 rolls off the line

The legendary Porsche 911 series went into its next generation (992) last year, but certain older modifications have stayed in production – until now.

The last car to have left the assembly line was a Speedster, a lightweight, open-top sports car based on the racing-spec 911 GT3 platform and packing 510 horsepower (380 kilowatts). The company has released a total of 1,948 such Speedsters.

The model generation 991 proved to be the most successful for the brand, with 233,540 cars sold over the past 8 years. Aside from the traditional coupe, convertible and Targa shapes available in Carrera, Turbo and GT trim versions, the extensive lineup also included the 911 R, 911 T, 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series, and many other spin-offs.

The gen.991 has also seen two major milestones: the 911 turned 50 during its production period, and the total production volume of Porsche cars went over 1,000,000 units.

The latest generation – 992 – is already represented by the Carrera and Carrera S, which are available in coupe and convertible versions in RWD and AWD versions. The 911 Turbo should join them this winter, and the new 911 GT3 should follow later. Special editions will also emerge next year. The company is optimistic about it, saying the gen.992 might surpass the previous generation in terms of the sheer number of special editions produced.
