Watch the footage from the ghost town that is the canceled GIMS-2020 for the full introduction of Porsche’s most powerful 911 to date, the 992 Turbo S.
The company claims that the car comes driven by a ‘brand-new 3.8-liter, opposite-cylinder engine’ while acknowledging that it essentially represents a tweaked variant of the Carrera engine. New boost mechanics and injection enabled a rise to 650 hp (485 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, representing a sizeable improvement of 70 hp and 50 Nm over the previous generation. The familiar eight-speed PDK transmission takes the super coupe from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a breezy 2.7 seconds, shaving 0.2 s off the previous-gen value. Getting to 200 km/h (124 mph) is a matter of 8.9 seconds, and the ceiling is as high as 330 km/h (205 mph).
The front axle gains 42 mm (1.6”) and the rear one 10 mm (0.4”) of wheel span. The wheels are staggered: 20-inch 255/35 ones at the front and 21-inch 315/30 ones at the rear.
Active aerodynamic flaps, airlift-driven front spoiler, and the massive rear wing improve the downforce by a further 15%.
The adaptive suspension is now standard (but you may pay for a 10mm / 0/2” lowering), and also included in the main spec are a valve-controlled exhaust system and AWD. The latter can redirect up to 500 Nm (370 pound-feet) of torque to the front wheels when needed.
Customers may opt for custom interior finishes, high-end seats with 18 power adjustments, a multimedia system with a 10.9-inch screen, a Bose audio set, a GT steering wheel, and a plethora of other modern niceties.
The Porsche 911 Turbo S will start from €216,396 (coupe) and €229,962 (cabriolet).
