Porsche introduces 3D-printed seat tech, promises mid-2021 launch

Porsche has unveiled a new bucket seat design that heavily relies on 3D printing technologies and should take car individualization ‘to a whole new level.’

The design is marked as conceptual right now, but will eventually be ready for implementation in mass-produced sports cars. Each of the ‘sandwich seats’, as the company calls them, consists of a foamy polypropylene base wrapped in a polyurethane cover. The material is transpiring, and customers will be able to choose between three available hardness levels.

The company plans to release 40 such seats later this year for professional racing drivers to test out in the upcoming racing events in Europe. Once the feedback arrives, Porsche will finalize the design and make it available for its 911 and 718 models in mid-2021.
