Rinspeed has a reputation for producing some of the weirdest custom-built cars over the decades, but this 2003 Porsche 911 “Bedouin” is decidedly one of the hardest to forget.
The conceptual ride originally debuted at the Geneva International Motor Show seventeen years back and used a 996-gen body that Rinspeed effectively molded into a bulky hatchback. This mod alone would probably be radical enough to keep the show crowd entertained, but the team went an extra mile to make the rear part of the roof fold automatically. Push a button, and your Porsche essentially turns into a pickup truck with a rather practical bed. How’s that for innovation!?
To top things off, the company fitted the car with aftermarket tires, lifted the clearance by 150 mm (nearly six inches) and gave the body a flashy chameleon paintjob.
