Check out world’s only bulletproof Porsche 911 (996)

The 996th generation of the iconic Porsche 911 is easily the least likeable, but this specific example is unique and positively worth a second look.

The reason is, the Carrera coupe was produced with enough armor plating to withstand 9mm and even Magnum 44 gunfire. It is not a tuner car, either, but rather something Porsche had originally intended to produce en masse. High pricing and low demand did their thing in mid-1990s, though, and the manufacturer had to wrap up the project after just one finished unit.

The turquois car body is made of a special ballistic material and fitted with 20mm (0.8”) thick glass all around. The rear glass still retains its integrated heating circuit.

One interesting side effect of the plating was discovered later, when the development crew found the interior of the car dead silent compared to that of a standard Porsche. Other than that, though, the bulletproof racer looks just like a regular 911 (996), except for black window bezels and missing sunroof.
